The first two weeks in the college i was attending the trans form class (M2M), basically they told us that in trans form we will be taught to be comfortable with the materials used for design as foundation teaches us basics, studying about materials also gives us all kinds of knowledge about design.
The material for these two weeks was
PAPER
DAY 1
For the first day we started cutting paper in different shapes and lines
and tried to make balls and strings.
DAY 2 AND 3
For the next two days we started using different papers to make different kinds of forms with in a 5*5 cm squares.
DAY 3
We worked on 3D models and we made 10*10cm cube and 25*25cm frames.
DAY 4
FINAL PROJECT
THE TECHNIQUE
So we worked with different kinds of paper every paper was completely different.
THE TWO DIFFERENT TEXTURES
THE PAPER PULPING: this texture was something I did in school in junior classes so it was really nostalgic for me to land up with it again. its a really time taking process not gonna lie. for my final project I used kite paper for it I combined two colors blue and green and tore it in small pieces and soaked them in water and then I had to set them on a cloth and had to squeeze out water from it and then it had to dry as it was now supposed to be for a 20*20cm square it took more time than the 5*5cm square but it turned out to be quite good and my hand was completely blue.
2. THE SPIRAL BRAIDS: these were really complex to be honest, so for this I used crepe paper of three colors to make it attractive looking and I had to twist each strip of paper and then had to use them and make a braid, this was in it self challenging as crepe paper was at times pretty delicate in starching but then came the most tricking part when i had to stich them on the OHP sheet and had to cut holes on the sheet at first i thought punching machine would do but i did realize that it cant get through in the middle of the sheet so i had to cut holes with an exacto knife but it did look good in the end.
PAPER PRODUCT AROUND ME
I have noticed that OHP sheet has been used around me in a number of places like for laminating, for clear dividers used in dairies and sometimes for a book cover because of its tough to tear nature and also because it also offers transparency it is compatible for the above mentioned utilities.
TO DO LIST FOR USING A PAPER CUTTER
use a scale always for being precise for straight lines.
go slow
apply less pressure when the material is not that tough
always use a cutting sheet when you are cutting something without it things are pretty difficult
CONCLUSION
muddiest point: How to cut precisely, I have really struggled at this a lot, I guess I have to train myself on how to use a scale.
clearest point: After two weeks I have really understood the nature of every paper I came across.
MOTIVATION
In M2M I was engaged to the assignments as I liked working with paper, as I said I never knew most of these papers and the ones I knew I had no idea what is their nature exactly. The other reason was the desire to do something creative, i wanted to do something creative and unique with material and always wanted to stand out but to be hones when it was to tiering and also frustrating at times i had my pumped up music and some new college friends who could relate to the hustle and where a really good company so these also were a solid source of my motivation.
