The next two weeks in the college we were studying the essence of color where we were given colors and we learnt so much about colors and my color was
BROWN
DAY-1
So EOC is about the essence of color the main objective was to analyze the role of color in our lives and how color is such an important factor in our lives apart from designing
Talking about brown as color we often just perceive it as a color dull and dark but it actually has two aspects of the color and has hidden feelings which a viewer feels subconsciously.
So first we started with color swatches and we started noticing what is universally known to be that color as mine was brown I got to know that there were a lot of things in fact bear, fruit, wood, sand etc and then we started to discover those shades on paper by making color swatches of every shade we could see there. The tools of inquiry are articles, research papers, videos, observations etc.
DAY-2
So as the color assigned to me was brown, I personally have never known so much about a color it has really made me understand that color is like a universal unspeakable language like love and just like love it has an unconscious effect on us. So, we had to gather information about our color brown in every aspect and why was it used in a certain way and what is its meaning and how that color is simply more than a color.
I learnt a lot about the color brown how it has significance and a role in every aspect whether its culture, history, lifestyle etc.
How in psychology it gives a relaxed and warm feeling because of its dark dull tone, how in culture in Christianity it stands for the link between the people and the god as it’s the color the monks used to wear, how in a parcel service logo of the brand UPS uses brown to signify reliability and how different animals have brown as a skin color to camouflage to hide to prey.
DAY-3
So, after this assignment I learnt that colors are so much more influensive than we think it is it really gives us unconscious gut feeling about the story line in any movie or series. In fact, there colors are also used to make the viewer feel a certain way apart from the story line, they at times gives the viewer such feelings so that the viewer just gets into it. If I talk about the assignment, I got to know way more than I knew about colors especially my color brown cause there have been so many times that we don't even notice why it is even there, to be honest I never thought that in a scene picking colors is something which would have a meaning and not something just simply aesthetic. Even because of the presentations I got to know aspects about other colors too, I would say that it was really a fascinating experience.
So, if I talk about the color brown it is dull and not exciting but that is only one aspect of it because as the color is derived from nature it has the feeling of dirt, nature and for example in Star Wars the location was chosen in a scene was a desert with brown all over it also depicted homely as feeling to the viewers.
So other than nature brown has other feelings attached to it too. For example, in Harry potter a movie about a magical world existing in the parallel universe had certain aspects which had brown dominance as the school shown in the movie is depicted as really old so the insights of the school have certain brown tints to it to give it an old look, in fact even when there are certain documents featured in a scene, they are always brown as they want to it to look old and traditional. The indoor brown tint in the movie also wants to give a feeling of warmth as it is shown that its winter season.
CONCLUSION
So as the color assigned to me was brown, I personally have never known so much about a color it has really made me understand that color is like a universal unspeakable language like love and just like love it has an unconscious effect on us.
Brown as color is really connected to us as it resonates with the color of the earth and that what is really close to us as being a part of nature we are connected. By doing my research I got to know why does brown give a dull and sad feeling and also a comforting one. A color tells us so much about every aspect in context it directs us to certain meanings and feelings, for example happy colors are bright and mostly yellow so now we resonate yellow as happy so in whatever context it will be used it will always give us a happy feeling. That’s how visually it affects us.
CLEARLIST POINT - The clearlist point of eoc was knowing that colors as an aspect are really important even in cinematography cause for me that was something new that how the colors gives hints about the scene or the story or even it portrays emotions and ambience to create a feeling so this is something new i learnt.
MUDDIEST POINT - The muddiest point is that there are a lot of color combinations which i don't know the meaning about and I don't get the meaning of it as I saw them in certain web series.
